Most of the time, rewriting URLs (or creating Friendly Links) requires technical expertise and access to a secure file called an .htaccess. However, Blue Utopia allows you to rewrite or change the appearance of your URLs with friendly links, without any special skills or access.
Let's start with an example URL here: http://domain.com/index.php?page=display&id=61. This is a standard link to a page about Veterans.
The Blue Utopia web system allows you to use this link instead: http://domain.com/pages/61. This shorter URL makes it easier for you to communicate links.
However, you can also improve the search results of this page (and also make it more relevant) by taking the additional step of appending the link with keywords. In this case, we append the URL with keyword (called a slug) "veterans" so that we now have this: http://domain.com/pages/61/veterans.
Now, not only do we have a better-looking URL but we also have a relevant keyword in our link. This can be very helpful in your search rankings for very specific pages.
HOW TO ADD THE SLUG TO THE MENU:
You don't do anything to your actual page content. Instead, you change the URL of the linked content. In most cases, this will be the main menu, which is managed in the Site Configuration area. So to change the URL of the target page, you simply change the URL of the menu item. See below for example.
CHANGE ON PAGE:
You can also change on each individual page by following these steps:
- Go to Website
- Edit and Manager
- Edit a page
- Scroll down to the bottom and enter something in the 'slug' textbox
Note: If you do not see the textbox for slug, your site is not set for SEO = active. Simply start a support case and ask us to alter your SEO preferences to active (site_preferences).
